The White Oaks Philosophy
The Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators (CCMA) Accreditation is one reason to consider our school. Our unique implementation of the Montessori method is another.
White Oaks’ students develop confidence, self discipline and independence, as well as an enthusiasm for learning. We encourage them to make decisions from an early age and as result they learn to become problem-solvers able to make appropriate choices and mange their time well.
At White Oaks, we couple our academic program with practical and social skills using the same philosophies as Dr. Maria Montessori. In addition to building their own learning skills in an atmosphere where Please and Thank you or polite offers of “Do you need help with work” are the mainstays of conversation. Imagine a “school” which can also stimulate the creativity and curiosity of toddler, pre-school and elementary aged children!
At White Oaks, our teachers do not present students with the right answers and have them memorize those answers for a test – rather, the students are presented with intriguing questions and challenged to discover the answers or even find their own new solutions!

Classes are segmented as follows:
Toddler – 18 months to 3 years
Casa – 3 years to 6 years
Lower Elementary – 6 years to 9 years
Upper Elementary – 9 years to 12 years

White Oaks’ Staff
Barbara Ward, Principal and Chief Executive Officer of White Oaks Montessori School Ltd. has been a dedicated believer in the Montessori philosophy during her 33 years association with the Montessori program. She received her formal education in Ontario and England. Barbara Ward graduated in 1970 at the London England – based Association Montessori International (AMI) – an international organization, established by Dr. Maria Montessori.
Our Mission
Through the development of a safe, nurturing environment, we support the developing child in their quest for academic excellence, positive interdependent relationships and the skills necessary for a fulfilling life as an integral valued member of our society.
Barbara Ward
Since our Montessori classroom is a dynamic environment, Mrs. Ward carefully screens teachers who are able to respond to students’ feelings and at the same time, set clear and consistent limits. Teachers are trained observers of children’s learning and behaviour, allowing them to know when to intervene in the child’s learning with either a new lesson, a fresh challenge or a reinforcement of basic ground rules. All teachers are certified by teacher training institutes accredited by the Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE).
